I was so exhausted at the end of this day never managed to journal…and it was one of my favorite days! Started the day helping pick 36 dozen sweet corn , ok my help consisted of driving the zipper lawn mower pulling a small rack. I just drove very slowly so cousin Tom could “pick and gently toss” into 6 laundry baskets! Task accomplished in a fraction of the time since he didn’t have to toss and carry individual baskets to the zipper and then keep moving it forward. Once the picking was done, we headed to the shade to spray the corn down, then sprayed down a light weight quilt to lightly cover. This was repeated at least once more to provide the freshest corn at market. This was when my day started but Tom’s starts much earlier cutting fresh broccoli and I’m not sure what else. Right after noon dinner we did a home delivery of 36 ears to cousin Delmar’s. Then back to load up produce for delivery to the market site. Load up process included putting all produce in ice chests with a block of ice to keep in fresh. Produce included carrotts, kohlrabi, cubes, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, cabbage, onions, kale, celery, basil, beets, yellow squash! Then back home for 30 minutes of rest, then time to load up sweet corn and head up to market for final set up! By now we had granddaughter Aubrey to help! So more detailed set up of displaying produce and finally came time for opening the doors…I had heard about 20 people lined up but today only 4. Perhaps it was Threshermans preparations or people expecting company over the weekend but though a slow start it was steady for the next hour and a half. So fun to be “in-person” at Thursday Market instead of just seeing it on Facebook! Great fun to have cousin Char, Sandy and Julie come to Market! Best part was Julie hanging out at Market so we could spend sometime catching up on the last 2 years! More catchup yet to come! At the conclusion of Market at 5:00, young Aubrey suggested we pack up some produce to take uptown to antique car show on Main Street. Ok well I’m already tired and thought “oh my, sure let’s load up, unload, load up and unload a couple more times! So of course sweet corn was loaded, beans, onions, and a sampling of produce, table, 3 chairs, Market flag. We stayed about 2 hours uptown and it was worth our while! Then pack up, back to Market sight to pack up all the produce to take back to the farm, unload and cleanup! A day at the farm on Famers Market day! Time to watch the news and grieve with the people of Lahaina. So much loss! Praying for the people of Lahaina.
Karol: Don't think you knew I was going to Maui 8/7-8/14!! Arrived on Monday, no power Tuesday morning so my friend and I left to go to Kihei & Wailea. We drove Front St. Lahaina, without a clue that it would burn to the ground that afternoon. we never got back to Kaanapali (all our stuff is at the condo still) and were evacuated Thursday morning thru LAX. A lot more details, but I'll send you an e-mail. Very tragic and heard lots of sad stories before we left. Home safe and thankful but heart aches for the people on Maui.
