Happy Anniversary Kris and Laurie! It was special to be included in celebrating their 49th! The day began with breakfast at Bob Evans, a day outing along Skyline Drive which is known to be a feast for the eyes (it was!) and special ice cream treat!
Skyline Drive twists and winds following the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains climbing to elevations over 4,000 feet. We had a beautiful day of blue skies and sunshine and yes! wonderful changing colors! There was about a 20 car line up as we entered the park about 10am but it quickly thinned out after the first few scenic overlooks. We found turnouts on the west side to be much more colorful, while turnouts on the east side showed incredible views of the valley below and the trees were a little more green. We drove 60 miles of the 105, stopping at multiple turnout/overlooks for photos and to bask and breathe the sights and sounds! Though we did have to be careful breathing and/or smiling as there were A LOT of little black gnat like flying bugs!
We enjoyed a picnic lunch of apple slices, cashews and KIND bar while sitting at an overlook breathing in the colors. And then there was DESSERT a couple hours later after we had exited the park! A stop at Moo Thru in Remington for some homemade ice cream…mint chocolate chip and caramel. The ice cream competition across the states continues and I have now taste tested in 10 states! It’s a close race!
A highlight for the day: Hiking a part of the Appalachian Trail at 3,400 feet. The total footpath is 2,000 miles from Maine to Georgia. I hiked 1/8 of a mile! 🤣
Hmmm, Kris appears to be looking more and more like Dick!! Happy 49th!! Karol, if/when you return - Husky Deli now has an ice cream window that's open Friday and Saturday nights from 7-9pm - let's just say I've made a few trips to Husky Deli after dinner on the week ends for dessert!
