Escanaba Michigan to Frankenmuth Michigan 348 miles
As I write this I am behind 4 days in blogging as we have covered many miles and long days of driving but worth it as the beauty of the Fall colors has been incredible. Amazing to watch each day as the colors get more vibrant.
The day started with a small “bump” as I found the floor in the basement utility room with water having overflowed from the humidifier! So besides packing up for a long day of driving it was mopping up water. Then a miscommunication as Laurie and I ate breakfast at the guest house of yogurt, granola and fruit we went next door to say goodbye and Bonnie had the table set for breakfast of eggs, pastry and toast! So upon our departure we definitely were being sent off with full tummies! Was certainly hard to say goodbye after a week of special time together but it was time to “hit the road” with departure around 9:45.
First stops were for pictures of the Mackinac Bridge, before driving over it, a stop at the famous Clyde’s Burgers! Best cheeseburger I’ve had in a long time! “Best” cuz it was messy! Then to start our drive through the countryside of Michigan heading to Port Huron to cross into Canada about a 4 1/2 hour drive just to get to the border! The border crossing was easy either 2 open checkpoints and only a wait of 3 cars in front of us. Then 3 hour drive through Canada but not without a stop at Tim Hortons favorite Canada coffee and donut shop…they are indeed very tasty! We got a little box of 10 donut holes to share…honey dipped, old fashion glazed, chocolate and plain cake. Will not repeat on the plain cake donut holes in additional Tim Hortons stops while in Canada! Let’s just say I have had my fill of Tim Horton’s!
The drive today included once again beautiful rich Fall colors of which I don’t think I will ever tire.
Almost forgot that we stopped at the largest gift shop in U.P. it WAS BIG and many nice things displayed and we only had 30 minutes cuz we had hours of driving ahead!
2 lane roads - little tiny roads…this trip is not getting to the next destination in the fastest amount of time but enjoying the journey, being in awe of God’s marvelous creation each mile of the trip sometimes on small county roads, forest roads, etc!
Arrived todays destination of Frankenmuth just after 6pm to with less than an hour to walk thru what claims to be the largest Christmas store in the world! Bronner’s Christmas Store…extremely overwhelming! Then check in to our motel and find a place to eat.
Oh yes and over a couple of days a lost wallet AND a lost credit card…not the same person, not the same day! In both cases the lost were found!
Saxe sisters ❤️
The best hamburger ever!
