Aug 14-15 Recoup & Play

Monday post Threshermans  was a day for much needed recouping! Including an afternoon nap which then could be followed by a delicious supper at Kings Point Grill on Storm Lake with cousins Julie and Gary Hogrefe. So fun to start catching up on the last two years of our lives with health, retirement, family news and so much more! I am so thankful to have close connections with my Iowa family!

After a day of recouping Julie and I were ready for a day to hangout together shopping Main Street in Storm Lake. Started off with a bang by spending an hour and a half in the first shop, a gift shop! We just took our time chatting, commenting on items, sharing stories, encouraging one another, finding special items for future gift giving, finally I gave up and said “I’ve hit the wall! I’m done and need a break! Let’s check out the bakery two doors down!” Unfortunately it was closed but the ice cream shop in the next block wasn’t! Yep! That was our lunch for the day! See pictures! Huge scoops! I had a scoop of peach on the bottom and cherry on the top! I advised Julie “put the best scoop on the bottom to end with!” Her choice bottom of coconut (editorial: yuck!) and raspberry with chocolate chip on top!

Once “refreshed” we were ready for more shopping hitting a couple of antique shops, dress shop and returning to the gift shop for a couple of purchases.

Then it was off to visit her sister-in-law Carol on her farm and see the fun they have had decorating with many items they have scavengered from other farms or half price at antique shops. Items were used for yard art or creative house decorating! I’m just jealous of the creativity of those two.

For supper we headed to Pocahontas Odd Fellows for Taco Tuesday! If you know me at all you know I love tacos! Before heading home we went to a Veterans Memorial in Pokey, even saw a few names I recognized. So thankful for friends and family that have served in the armed forces for our freedom.

Once back at Gary and Julie’s we headed to their front porch to enjoy more great conversation as well as the

hopping activity on Main Street Albert City. Joining us were many of our neighborhood “fly” friends! But here was the quote of the night from Gary! Gary: “It’s a pretty busy night of traffic tonight!” Karol: “Traffic! What traffic??? There have only been maybe 10 cars in the last hour!!” We all had a good laugh! Then we proceeded to watch the sheriff drive Main Street both ways, and then the cross street. We were in good hands!

Caught up on two days of entries and still have one to go! Tomorrow: Farmers Market
