Today I say goodbye to Branson! It’s been a wonderful stay and I’ve made notes of what to see on a return trip: SIX (an accapella group) and Clay Cooper, and of course whatever is showing at Sight and Sound! And… late breaking 2 hours after leaving town it was brought to my attention I missed out on GrandmaRuthsRoll.com! Shoot! Now I do need to go back! If you want more info on that late breaking news email me and I’ll fill in the blanks for you!
This morning I enjoyed another walk along the lake, yes I’ve learned it is a lake, not a river! So peaceful and calm, lots of chirping birds, people out in boats fishing and just a few steps away shops and eateries! But in the morning, I prefer a walk along the lake. Tentatively plan to drive out of Branson about noon, then a 5 hour drive.
Before leaving town I stopped by Magnolia’s for a hot honey chicken sandwich! Mmm good! Had a nice chat with one of the owners and heard her story as she worked in other eateries at The Landing of shops and restaurants and decided to invest with her husband and father in the missing nitch, a high quality sandwich and salad. Hope the best for them! Their product is outstanding!
Nice drive! GPS mystified me a couple of times as it took me off the main highway for a few miles of country driving, then back onto the main highway???? Crazy!
My hotel in Topeka! Up until Topeka I had done well with Best Western Plus this was a Sure Stay BW and first red flag was no elevator, my room was on the second floor, I had initially planned to stay 2 nights. Never knew I needed to ask if there was an elevator?!?! They did have a room on the first floor, just one room removed from the pool which closed at 10. But what really got me was when I used the bathroom, I noticed the tub facet was dripping and had rings in the bottom of the tub. I decided to turn it on to see if it actually worked, if you know me you know morning showers are an important! So I didn’t unpack my bags to my room for the first two hours. Repairman came, did a temporary fix, I stayed in the room. But the ice machine didn’t work, a couple other people complained while I was at the front desk their TVs didn’t work, my bathroom door looked like it had been kicked with a hole in it, only had one safe lock on the door, second was broken, very difficult to close curtains to darken the room, I did manage to do it. A towel rack in the bathroom had been replaced but not repainted where it didn’t match up…just sloppy! Walls seemed paper thin. Very disappointing. That being said they did allow me to cancel my night 2 reservation which I did. Made the 2nd night reservation at a Hampton in Lawrence 30 minutes away because I am getting my car serviced in Lawrence on Monday morning tire rotation and oil change before the last leg of the trip home!
