March 7 - #1 Driving Lookout Mountain Parkway

Unlike yesterday lots of pictures today! Probably 2 postings worth!!!!

Today was an adventure day of driving one of the drives from my Readers Digest book The Most Scenic Drives in America which I have used many times on my trip! Today Lookout Mountain Parkway in northeast Alabama.

First stop Noccalula Falls to the north of Gadsden where I am staying 3 nights. Black Creek Falls drops 90 feet, nothimg like our Snoqualmie Falls dropping 268 feet but great falls with enjoyable walking paths which I may revisit tomorrow unless I get rained out. Yes I am a Seattlelite used to rain but not 2” inches or more in a very short time.

Next it was on to Little River Canyon where I had to make a decision on whether to go under a tree crossing the narrow winding road…a road on which I never did see any cars…I went!

This was the sign leading into the narrow, steep, twisty road which I drove 5 miles and turned around and found my way back out!

The roadway parallels the steep-walled rift, one of the deepest found east of the Mississippi River. Pullouts were frequent, thus so were my stops…and my pictures!
